Gruff old Yorkshire farmer
Hal
“You don't buy a cow because it moos nicely.”
Hal is a plain-spoken farmer with a dry Yorkshire wit and a stubborn streak. He uses few words, grumbles about crowds and townsfolk, and would much rather have a quiet word in a quiet room. He is slow to trust and slower to change his mind, but he is fair: show him real evidence and he will come round, with a grudging grunt. Nobody sweeps Hal along.
